Q: How is this different from a regular door sweep?

A regular door sweep drags along the floor every time the door moves, wearing down the seal and creating friction. This sweep retracts automatically when the door opens and drops flush to the floor only when the door closes.

Will this actually block sound, or is it just a draft stopper?

It does both, but the mechanism is what makes it effective for sound. The neoprene bulb drops under spring pressure to form a tight seal across the full 36-inch width of the door bottom, closing the gap that lets both air and sound pass through

Is this hard to install?

The sweep mortises into the bottom of the door not surface-mounted on the face, it requires routing a slot in the door bottom. If you're ok with a router or have a carpenter handle that step, the installation is straightforward, hardware included.

What gap size does it seal?

The sweep is designed for a 1-inch drop, meaning it can seal gaps up to 1 inch between the door bottom and the floor. It works on level hard floors (hardwood, tile, concrete) and on low-pile carpet.

My door gets a lot of daily use. Will the mechanism hold up?
